The Price of Food is on the Rise….Invest in a Vegetable Garden

What should you invest in? What is the number one, easiest thing you can do to save money and make a safe investment with your money?  FOOD! I’m no economist by any means, but what else could be a better, safer, more self sustainable investment than investing in something that is a major aspect to your survival.  It is a very satisfying feeling to walk out into your garden (hopefully soon this will be year round for me) and pick healthy fruits and vegetables for your upcoming meal.

The price of food, fresh fruits and vegetables, has increased 20% over the last 2 years.  Besides the potential for saving money on fresh produce, growing your own fresh fruits and vegetables has many other benefits.

Top Ten Steps Towards Living Sustainably

So here is my first “Top Ten List”. This list will be kind of an introduction into some of the first topics I will be writing on and also attempting to implement into everyday life. My first posts will be topics from this list (not necessarily in the order from 1 to 10). This is by no means a complete and/or easiest list. These are just the steps I feel are the most important to me and my family to living sustainably.

The first thing many people think of when sustainable living is mentioned is solar power and/or alternative energy.  Alternative energy is a very important part of sustainable living but not always the most practical initial step for most households to take.  Don't get me wrong, I definitely feel that alternative energy is an important step towards living sustainably.......we're just not to that step yet.

Train for an Athletic Body Type

The athletic body type, in my opinion, is the ideal and most practical body type to have.   Most athletes (I will expand on this later) are on average fast, strong, have high endurance, and are very agile.   So what does being athletic or having an athletic body type have to do with sustainable living?  All of the athletic characteristics above are very important functional traits for survival in biological terms.  The body type of an athlete is a result of his/hers training and diet (well…also genetics but you get the idea).  In order to maintain their fitness they have to train hard with certain techniques and have a good balanced healthy diet.

Not only will you be more functionally fit when you train for an athletic body type, I think most consider athletic bodies to be the most attractive.  This might sound shallow to some but I really believe its important to feel and look good.

Dual Survival Discovery Channel – Modern Survivalism vs Bush Hippie Logic

So now that Lost is over (that show consumed 100% of my TV time for the past 4 or 5 years), I kind of had a void to fill in the little bit of time I get each week to watch TV. Jack Spirko over on the Survival Podcast, interviewed Dave Canterbury one of two of the survival experts on the Dual Survival:Discovery Channel TV series. It was a great interview and it really got me interested in checking out the series. So I went home and set my DVR to start recording. So I usually don’t get into the whole reality TV thing, but let me tell you…..this series is very entertaining and at the same time educational.
